You may find the following Bible verses hard to believe even though fundamentalist Christians claim they are inspired by God and everything in the Bible is true for all time and must be taken literally. (Keep in mind that Bible translations differ.) 1. In the Bible's book of Deuteronomy it says that if a man marries a woman and then decides that he hates her, he can claim she wasn't a virgin when they married. At that point her father must prove she was a virgin. (How is not explained.) If he can't, then the girl is to be stoned to death at her father's doorstep. 2. If you see a pretty woman among your captives and would like her for a wife, then bring her home and "go in unto her." Later, if you decide you don't like her, you can simply "let her go." (Deuteronomy) 3. If a betrothed virgin is raped in the city and doesn't cry out loud enough, then "the men of the city shall stone her to death." (Deuteronomy) 4. In the book of Esther the king apparently decrees a sex contest among young virgin women to see who can best please him. (There is debate on how.) He eventually chooses Esther. However, since women are viewed as inherently dirty, Esther must be "purified" for twelve months before she can be made queen. (Esther) 5. Paul points out in New Testament Romans that "the natural use" of women is to provide men with sex. (Romans) 6. Heaven is to be inhabited by 144,000 virgin men who have not been "defiled" by women. (RE 14:1-4) [One wonders how this squares with God's command to, "Be fruitful and multiply...(Genesis )] 7. A group of sexual depraved men beat on the door of an old man's house demanding that he turn over to them a male house guest. Instead, the old man offers his virgin daughter and his guest's wife: "Behold, here are my virgin daughter and his concubine (wife); let me bring them out now. Ravish them and do with them what seems good to you; but against this man do not do so vile a thing." The women were subsequently ravished and killed. (JG)) 8. In Exod. we see that it is permissible to sell one's daughter (but apparently not one's son) into slavery.. 9. According to St. Jerome, "Nothing is so unclean as a woman in her periods; what she touches she causes to be unclean." In Leviticus it states, "If a woman conceives and bears a male child, she shall be ceremonially unclean seven days...if she bears a female child she shall be unclean two weeks...." 10. "A woman dropped a stone on his head and cracked his skull. Hurriedly he called to his armor-bearer, 'Draw your sword and kill me, so that they can't say a woman killed me.' So his servant ran him through, and he died." (Judges) 11. Under God's direction, Moses' army kills all the adult males, but they mercifully just take the women and children captive. When Moses learns that they left some women and children alive, he angrily says: "Kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him." Throughout Bible history God is said to demand that thousands, if not millions, of men, women and children be slaughtered. And they are. 12. A man has an obligation to produce a child with his brother's widow. If he refuses, his sister-in-law is to spit in his face in front of the elders. (Deuteronomy 25:5-9) And in case you are Jewish, you may be familiar with the Jewish prayer: "Blessed be the God who has not created me a heathen, a slave or a woman." We've only listed a dozen Bible quotes of this type, but there are many more. Would we be wrong in assuming that even Bible literalists wouldn't want these verses read to their children in Bible School? Plus, what parent would want their children reading Bible verses comparing the size of men's penises to donkey genitals and their sperm flow to that of horses? Books are commonly banned from school libraries for much less. Most Old Testament law dates back centuries to Jewish tribal law and would be considered not only immoral but illegal today. At the same time, fundamentalist, Bible-carrying Christians claim they are the for-all-time, inviolable Word of God... Poch Suzara

Difference Between Education and Indoctrination

The difference between education and indoctrination is vast, but it is often subtle when the mind thinks of these two subjects... Education involves the seeking of facts, and learning about what is the truth, and what is not... Indoctrination is aimed at influencing people to believe in facts, without being able to back up these new found facts with anything but opinion... You can be indoctrinated into a political party, a cult, or a belief system... In fact, all of us are indoctrinated into a belief system as we are growing up... Whether our parents or guardians are open and understanding people, or if they are bigoted, and want nothing to do with anyone outside of their own race and affiliations, we are subtly indoctrinated into their belief system... As we grow older, many of us seek education in order to develop our own belief system... Education can be directly supported by data that is derived from facts... Indoctrination tends to use language that encompasses everything, referring to ‘all’, or ‘every’, as though the insights created are a statement of fact for each and every individual of a group... For example: ‘All democrats spend too much money.’ ‘All republicans are religiously oriented and bring the bible to work with them.’ You can’t support these statements of ‘all’ and ‘every’ without actual data... If you believe it, then it has grown from opinion to indoctrination... Education points out that there are different solutions, often to the same problem... Indoctrination poses the belief that there is only one solution to a problem... In Nazi Germany, the solution to growing economic problems was to exterminate all minorities and Jewish citizens, as though this was the only possible solution.... There was no room for any kind of secondary thought to the proposed solution... Education uses statistical analysis to encourage thought toward reasoning, and proposed solution finding... Indoctrination often uses statistics, but has offered no analysis of size, duration, control subjects, criteria, or duration of the gathering of those statistics. Thus, the statistics offered through indoctrination are simply misrepresented, and are used only to support the beliefs being posed... Any statistics that might dispute the beliefs are not brought to attention... Education is unbiased... It is founded in fact, and isn’t there to persuade anyone to come up with a certain belief... Education is development of one’s own beliefs based on the facts that are discovered throughout the process... Indoctrination has an agenda. It is used to encourage the embracing of another’s beliefs, and developing blinding and complete agreement with those beliefs. I said it before, I said it again: For the most part, million of children in school in the Philippines are not being educated... They are being indoctrinated; especially to believe in a lot of hogwash to benefit the officials of the CHURCH, and the politicians in the GOVERNMENT - both corrupt and always in cahoots together. There are many failed arguments for God's existence but there is one which is fundamental to them all. This is the Argument from FEAR as inspired by IGNORANCE... Take virtually any aspect of our natural world that we don't fully understand and you'll find someone claiming God is the light at the end of that dark tunnel... Here are TEN of such arguments - faulty, illogical, childish and fearfully crappy as they are superstitious to any critical mind that thinks under lively analysis, and never stuck with beliefs under deadly paralysis:.. 1. Shifting the Burden of Proof - I know God exists. If you disagree, prove otherwise. Oh you say you can't prove God doesn't exist? That's because you know he does!... 2. Argument from Popularity - The vast majority of the world believes in God. This supports the universal truth that God is real, otherwise it makes no sense that so many people would believe... 3. The Transcendental Argument - God is, by definition, a being greater than which nothing can be conceived (imagined). Existence in reality is better than existence in one's imagination. God must exist in reality; if God did not, then God would not be that than which nothing greater can be conceived (imagined)... 4. Argument from Coercion - You must believe in God/Jesus. It's your only hope for salvation. We are all doomed if we don't accept Jesus as our personal savior. It says so in the Bible. If you want to live forever and avoid suffering, you must accept God... 5. First Cause Argument - Everything that exists in our world is the result of some sort of "first cause" which brought about its existence. Therefore, there must have been a force which created the universe. That "first cause" is what we call God. Also known as Cosmological Argument... 6. Argument from Authority - God is real because the Bible (or whatever sacred text you believe in) says so. Why would so many people write so much about God if it wasn't true?... 7. Argument from Personal Experience - I know god exists because I can feel him. I know it in my heart; he talks to me; I feel his strength and existence flow through every fiber of my being... 8. Argument from Improbability - The second law of thermodynamics says matter inevitably becomes entropic (spreads out in chaos) and this defies the observation on Earth where we see, things becoming more organized. Therefore God is responsible... 9. Pascal's Wager - It is a "safe bet" to believe in God just in case he is real. What's the harm? If you believe and he doesn't exist, you don't lose anything, but if you don't believe and he does exist, you lose big time... 10. Argument from Design - If you found a watch on the ground, you never met the watchmaker, but you know from its design, the beauty of it; the way each piece was intricately designed to work together, that this watch had a creator. Theists point to the human body; the precise way each of our organs work with each other and claim it's the most amazing "creation" of all, and surely there was some sort of creator behind it... In the meantime, no one has ever found God existing here; or has discovered God existing there; or, has met God existing anywhere! Our nation cannot be radically reformed except by the radical reform of our traditional beliefs and obsolete values. It is full of hatred, greed, revenge, murder, bloodshed, falsehoods, lies, deception, illusion, confusion, delusion, sado-masochism, absurdities, inconsistencies, atrocities, contradictions, lust, stupidities, and obscenities all inextricably mixed together as a system of holy lies, pious frauds, and priestly deceptions. Well, here is a truth that has not changed during these past thousands of years. Such logical and truthful consistencies have not been formulated by any inspired authors. What If I Live to be 80 years Old

The day we are born is the day we begin to live in a dying body. Now I am told that God has never been born as God has no beginning and no end. Well, let's assume for the sake of argument that God has been existing for more than 80 MILLION years and will continue to exist for another 80 MILLION years. Now suppose I live to be only 80 YEARS, which is but a split of a millisecond long comparatively to God's MILLIONS OF YEARS of EXISTENCE. Shouldn't I be most proud of myself to learn after my death that, somehow, within my 80 insignificant years of existence, I managed to offend God Almighty while existing on this piece of dust called "earth?" Dear Fr. Shay Cullen, Preda, I do not believe in the existence of a supreme Being. I do, however, believe in the existence of great men and women. Great individuals who had the courage to put beauty into this world, our world, where nature has put only horror. Evil Versus Evil as the History of the World

Of all the great evils that God, in his inscrutable wisdom, had needlessly inflicted upon mankind - Christianity, Judaism, and Islam are by far the worst. Big business, however, like The US government, welcomes the existence of such evil; especially for the sake of making tons of money or for the US economy to grow and expand. It gives the US military power all the opportunity to inspire evil to go to war against evil in this world. Indeed, a little reflection on the history of our world - shows simply that history has never been about GOOD versus EVIL, but always about EVIL versus EVIL. They are still on going throughout the world today and EVIL still winning. Look how in our world today - the human race is still being disgraced - by divine grace! For my part, however, I thank God I am an atheist and a pacifist. In looking at it from a larger perspective, everything in this universe is subject to birth, growth, death, and decay. In other words, each unfolding reality contains the seeds of its own destruction and the embryo of a new reality that will replace it. It is all about the Entropy Law - the second law of thermodynamics - everything in the entire universe began with structure and value and is irrevocably moving in the direction of random chaos and waste. It also explains why and how the day we are born is the day we begin to live in a dying body. As I said it before, I say it again: When it is our time to go, we go. Open Letter to Pope Francis of the Catholic Church

Pope Francis’s New Tone Suggests an Age of Change Ahead Since his papacy began in March, Pope Francis has shown himself to be a man of small but substantial gestures. He exudes a pastoral charm -- whether cleaning the feet of prisoners, hugging a disabled child after easter Mass or picking up the phone to comfort the distraught -- that didn’t always come naturally to his predecessors. He dresses modestly, lives austerely, speaks constantly of the poor and drives a 1984 Renault. He has reached out to atheists, gays and divorcees. In an interview released last week, Francis went further still. He affirmed his support for gays and lesbians, spoke candidly about his mistakes and doubts, and made clear that the Vatican, in his estimation, has fixated for far too long on a narrow set of controversial issues and “small-minded rules.” “The church’s pastoral ministry cannot be obsessed with the transmission of a disjointed multitude of doctrines to be imposed insistently,” he said. “We have to find a new balance; otherwise even the moral edifice of the church is likely to fall like a house of cards.” In describing that new balance, the pope’s language was suffused with ambiguity, uncertainty and doubt -- in other words, the language of reality. And perhaps most strikingly, he showed himself to be comfortable with change. “Human self-understanding changes with time and so also human consciousness deepens,” he said. “The view of the church’s teaching as a monolith to defend without nuance or different understandings is wrong.” This is not the language one is accustomed to hearing from popes. Or from, say, the U.S. Congress. Yet it should resonate with other large and change-averse institutions that will soon be grappling with an era of unprecedented change. To say that Francis is trying to appease “liberal” Catholics, or is conforming to any other ideological caricature, is to miss the point. He’s attempting to transcend the moribund and dispiriting language of the culture wars altogether, and to inject a note of seriousness and compassion into a public conversation saturated with triviality and invective. And he is grounding his arguments, in the best tradition of Catholic thought, in concern for the individual. In doing so, Francis also makes a strong case that he, and by extension the church, has something to offer even increasingly secular societies. In the developing world, where some 70 percent of Catholics now live, the church is most visible in the network of social services it operates for the poor. In the rich world, in recent years, it has more often been the voice of reaction and sexual opprobrium. Francis is clearly trying to change that dynamic, to show that the church has more to offer. We should hope he’s right. In an age of accelerating technological and social upheaval -- when everything from communications to economics to politics to the global climate is rapidly evolving -- a moral voice that is not only open to change but also attuned to the individual suffering and alienation that change can cause will grow ever more important. Francis’s rhetoric implies no imminent revolution in church policies. Yet the Vatican is an organization of the long game. “Many think that changes and reforms can take place in a short time,” he said. “I believe that we always need time to lay the foundations for real, effective change.” This is true, both in the church and in every other human institution. You may be disappointed that Francis hasn’t started officiating at gay weddings, or you may be furious that he’s opening a dialogue on issues his predecessors considered closed. You may not care at all. Whatever your view, however, Francis ought to be taken seriously. In the war of ideas, the papacy remains a singularly influential institution, and this pope is wielding his persuasive power in a new and vivifying way. OPEN LETTER TO POPE FRANCIS OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH My Dear Pope Francis, The Philippines has financial limited resources and a high poverty rate. The rapid increase in population has worsen as a problem. We have not sufficient resources to support the population, which leaves much fewer resources to improve the economy. Indeed, with more and great resources coming, we need only to abolish not poverty, but slavery. Millions of Filipinos are not enslaved because they are poor; on the contrary, they are poor because they are still enslaved. Jesus, in the bible, admonished: "There is still one thing you haven't done," he told him. "Go and sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me." Matt. 10:21. We Filipinos did not have to sell our possessions; it was taken away from us. We are now the poor. In fact, as the only followers of Jesus in all of Asia, we Filipinos suffer from poverty of the worst kind: the poverty of the mind and heart. We Filipinos have nothing in this world except to be with Jesus after death in the next world. My dear Pope Francis, please be informed that among the very rich people in the Philippines are your Catholic priests, nuns, bishops, and Cardinals. They live not in the slums of our major cities, but reside in expensive condominiums, expensive villages, expensive mansions, and luxurious homes together with their respective wives and children, if not lovers or lived-in partners. No doubt, our congressmen and senators are among the wealthiest of Filipinos too, and the majority of them are faithful as Catholics. Not one of them is an atheist. Please, your eminence, please return the TRILLIONS OF PESOS the Catholic church made from the Catholic business corporations operating under tax-free privileges in the Philippines - monies made in the indulgence industry, real estate rentals, hospitals, farms, banks, schools, colleges, and universities - monies made yearly since the 16th century. Please give it back to the MILLIONS of economically impoverished Filipinos. In this way, You will not only insure the continued existence of the Catholic church in the Philippines, but will also earn the love, respect, and admiration of the billions of people in the non-Catholic countries. I, myself would once again believe that Catholicism is a great religion, and once again be faithful to the revealed truth that the Catholic church is not the historical curse, but the real Savior of the Filipinos in this only Catholic country in Asia today. 1- Genesis, Chapter No. 4, Verse No. 12, it says… ‘God told Cain: you will never be able to settle you will be a wanderer.’ Few Verses later on Genesis, Chapter No.4, Verse No.17, says…‘Cain built up a city’ – unfulfilled prophecy. 2- If you read Jeremiah, Chapter No.36, Verse No.30, it says that…‘Jehoiachin the father of Jehoiachin… no one will be able to sit on his throne - The throne of David, no one will be able to sit after Jehoiachin.’ If you read later on, II Kings, Chapter No 24, Verse No 6, it says that… ‘Jehoiachin after he died, later on Jehoiachin sat on the throne’ - Unfulfilled prophecy. 3- One is sufficient to prove it is not the word of God - I can give plenty. If you read Ezekiel, Chapter No 26, it says that…‘Nebuchader, he will destroyed Tyre.’ We come to know that Alexander the great, was the person who destroyed Tyre - Unfulfilled prophecy. 4- Isaiah, Chapter No. 7, Verse No 14, says, prophesying of…‘The coming of a person who will be born to a virgin - his name shall be Emmanuel.’ They say… the Christians - it refers to Jesus Christ peace be upon him.
