OUR SICK WAY OF DAILY LIFE IN THE PHILIPPINES
Our Society cannot be radically reformed except by a radical reform of our traditional values and sacred beliefs. Here, however, in the Philippines is the greatest of ideas conveyed daily by church, by the government, in schools, colleges, universities, in the media - newspapers, magazines, on radio, TV, and in the Filipino movies: how to keep us Filipinos sick and ignorant as a people; and, how to keep the Philippines corrupt and sick as a nation. These horrors are the results of religious ideals more referred to as our sacred values and holy beliefs; or, to speak more truthfully - how to live not creatively but only how to die destructively for the greater glory of Jesus on earth as he is in heaven. Poch, the new Atheist, Richard Dawkins claims that there is no meaning or purpose of this life. In his famous book The Blind Watchmaker, Dawkins claims: “In a universe of blind physical forces and genetic replication, some people are going to get hurt, other people are going to get lucky, and you won’t find any rhyme or reason in it, nor any justice. The universe we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil and no good, nothing but blind pitiless indifference.” (p.133) If the world were really senseless as he claims, then what would it matter what we believe or do? Why bother to write and correct those who don’t agree with you? For that matter, why do anything at all? You reject the Bible as ridiculous and detestable, but I have to ask by what standard do you make this assessment? Is it just an arbitrary opinion, or do you have a rational basis for measuring --- if so, what is it? As a Christian, the biblical God is my foundation for judging whether something is good or bad, “sick” or sound, corrupt or above reproach. But apart from Scripture, what would be the basis for making a non-arbitrary judgment about what is good? In fact, if the world were really senseless, then how could you have an absolute standard for judging anything at all?
Ken, I repeat, we atheists have no need to believe in your LESSER God because we already have a GREATER God to love and respect - our FAMILY, our COUNTRY, and the whole of HUMANITY in the here and now in this world, Our World. Cheers! Poch Suzara
