Idiot Candidates

“There are no idiot candidates where there are no idiot voters.” Antonio C. Abaya
As a matter of deeper fact, if our system of education were purely based upon the scientific revolution of the mind, and not upon the apostolic revelation of the idiotic soul - our politicians need not arrive at high government office by having achieved a reputation in mediocrity. In the meantime, our democracy is shallow, meaningless, and thoughtless since the majority of our people live in misery and in poverty.
And to think that far more evil than the idiot candidates and the idiot voters are the idiot religious so-called leaders. They still preach that poor Filipinos must and should continue to multiply and replenish for themselves more misery and poverty in this God-forsaken only Christian country in Asia. Poch Suzara

Dear Poch:

As usual you are right on target. I just want to answer your quote from Mr. Antonio Abaya blaming
"idiotic voters" for "idiotic candidates." This is a cop-out, an elitist escape hatch. The mass of voters are victims of hypocrisy, lies and trickery. They are
also victims of manipulation in that the rich takes advantage of their hunger and ignorance due to lack of education as a result of poverty. If the voters are as guilty as GMA why impeach her? The victim is granted relief and redress of grievances, the guilty
should go to jail. Abaya's supposedly wise statement was ascribed by Rizal to Father Florentino, a Catholic priest, who said in El Filibusterismo that the people deserve the government they get, meaning that people should not complain if they are oppressed and
exploited because they are just as guilty as their oppressors, mainly the friars. But Rizal put his real
thoughts in the words of Simoun who in his dying breath condemned God for allowing the innocent to be
brutalized by the hypocrite and the exploiter. Mr. Abaya is just a sacristan.Manny

My sense is that the Philippines does not have a monopoly over idiot candidates. They must be all over our planet--everywhere and anywhere. They are here in the U.S., where supposedly the literacy rate is relative high, where the middle classes comprise a significant proportion of the country's 300-million population, and which boasts of a Jeffersonian democracy long touted as a model for all mankind.
It is very likely, however, that the Philippines can claim, rightfully, that it has now more of these idiot candidates in proportion to its close-to-90-million population than the U.S. of A. That is quite a distinction, I should say. There should be a Guiness Book world record for this category--and it is possible, nay probable, that the Philippines will win hands down!
Judging by how Filipino voters exercise their democratic right to vote, I am sure there will be more of these idiot candidates who will succeed in flaunting their ignorance, their idiocy, their stupidity, and their unadulterated gall in the now-unaugust halls of the Senate, the House of Representatives, as well as the so-called "deliberative" bodies of provincial, city and municipal governments.

I will not say that the country "has gone to the dogs"--to use a trite cliche. I will only say that it has gone to the idiots.
