Dear Father Roy Cimagala
With great interest, I read your article: WE NEED TO STUDY THEOLOGY published in BusinessWorld ( May 11, 2005 ). You mentioned and I quite agree that there are lots of people who are real giants in the fields of modern technology and other sciences. Regrettably however, I am unable to agree with you that such scientists and technologists are ‘like babies or pygmies with clearly stunted growth in matters of faith and religion.” For my part, I am neither a scientist nor a philosopher. In fact, I am a high-school dropout. But as you are an expert in theology, perhaps you might be of great assistance in answering for my own enlightenment, the following theological questions: If God were the Designer of nature, how come He had to design 23,000 different kinds of beetles? What went wrong with the first beetle design? Or, if the human body were God’s design, how come there exist about 2 billion kinds of virus, germs, and bacteria living inside our body that will eventually self-destruct whether we have free will or not? If God created everything, including space and time, where was God located before he created space, and when was it before he created time? In fact, if everything needs a creator, who or what created God? The sun is a giant star that it can take one million ( 1,000,000 ) planets the size of earth and fit them all inside it. The sun, however, may be large but it is not the largest star in the sky. According to the science of astronomy, there is an even bigger star called Betelgeuse. It is 500 times larger than our sun. Comparatively, therefore, we humans are like the size of tiny parasites living on this grain of sand called “planet earth.” In this connection, what was God’s size when he created man in His own image and likeness? How could Adam and Eve be guilty of anything original, such as the Original Sin, since before everything else there was, first and foremost, - the Original Creator? God’s first Commandment: “Thou shalt have no other Gods before me.” Can you explain where those “other Gods” came from? Who created them? God was often personally involved in human affairs during the days of biblical antiquity. How come he is no longer personally involved in human affairs in any shape or form in these days of scientific modernity? If moral values were universally planted by God, then all people would believe the same things. There could never be disagreements over right and wrong. There would be no need for laws, courts, and battlefields. Can you explain why the history of the world has been a history of conflicts between moral values in God’s name? According to the National Catholic Almanac, God is “almighty, eternal. Holy, immortal, immense, immutable, incomprehensible, ineffable, infinite, invisible, just, loving, merciful, most high, omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, patient, perfect, provident, supreme, true.” Can you explain: how was it possible for theologians to have declared God’s incomprehensibility and simultaneously list twenty-two additional attributes? If God cannot be comprehended, what’s the latest findings from the study of theology? Indeed, what’s new with God? If God were immutable and therefore cannot change the past, the present, and the future as God saw it, doesn’t that make our prayers utterly worthless because when we pray, we are asking God to change his mind? If God so loved the world, why does he tolerate the devil to inspire the believers of the same religion hate each other like we all do as a matter of survival in this only Christian country in Asia? Christ said that if someone smite thee on the right cheek, turn the left cheek also. What is so noble about turning the other cheek, if one knows that each time he does so, he piling up greater rewards in heaven, while the one who strikes is earning his rewards in hell? If Christ died on the cross to destroy the devil, how come the devil is still alive and quite a success inspiring the Filipino to grace not the growth of human civilization but only to be a disgrace in the rat race for eternal salvation? Theology is not what we know about divinity. It is what we do not know about humanity. As theology, however, is still at the very foundation of our system of education, is it any wonder that we come out of our schools not as fruitful thinkers in love with our country, but only as fruitless believers in love with divinity? Yours Faithfully, Poch Suzara

Nothing went wrong, what's the big score? It's even amazing to know that there are 23,000 of them and im sure biologist are discovering more and adding the list.
if the human body were God’s design, how come there exist about 2 billion kinds of virus, germs, and bacteria living inside our body that will eventually self-destruct whether we have free will or not?
the same virus and germs is also inside our body that figths the bad virus and bacteria. You have the free will to take care of your health by eating the right food, taking vitamins and do exercise to avoid the bad viruses and bacteria that is the God's design.
If God created everything, including space and time, where was God located before he created space, and when was it before he created time?
God is a pure spirit and cannot be contained in space. God is above time therefore He is not subject to Time, before the world He was, He is and always will be.
In fact, if everything needs a creator, who or what created God?
If you hold this statement as true then you are affirming that there is God
The sun is a giant star that it can take one million ( 1,000,000 ) planets the size of earth and fit them all inside it. The sun, however, may be large but it is not the largest star in the sky. According to the science of astronomy, there is an even bigger star called Betelgeuse. It is 500 times larger than our sun. Comparatively, therefore, we humans are like the size of tiny parasites living on this grain of sand called “planet earth.” In this connection, what was God’s size when he created man in His own image and likeness?
Likewise, God is a pure spirit and immaterial and cannot be subject to measurement. And it is true that we are made in his image and likeness is that he shares His very life in us “Grace”.
How could Adam and Eve be guilty of anything original, such as the Original Sin, since before everything else there was, first and foremost, - the Original Creator?
Original sin is the term of the first rebellion of man agains the will of God. Original Creator is your term, the simple other attributes of God is just CREATOR.
God’s first Commandment: “Thou shalt have no other Gods before me.” Can you explain where those “other Gods” came from? Who created them?
Some god's can be misuse and greed for money, prestige, pride, power and exalting oneself instead of praising and exalting God
God was often personally involved in human affairs during the days of biblical antiquity. How come he is no longer personally involved in human affairs in any shape or form in these days of scientific modernity?
God is still very much involve in human affairs and continues to draw man unto Himself. The sad fact is that some people didn't realized it.
If moral values were universally planted by God, then all people would believe the same things.
Its not moral values but divine law that God infuses in our soul when we are conceived in the womb of our mothers, it is It is by the judgment of our conscience that we perceive and recognize the prescriptions of the divine law, thus for example even if nobody teaches us that killing a person is wrong we know that it is wrong. Now, conscience must be informed and moral judgment enlightened. A well-formed conscience is upright and truthful. It formulates its judgments according to reason, in conformity with the true good willed by the wisdom of the Creator. The education of conscience is indispensable for human beings who are subjected to negative influences and tempted by sin to prefer their own judgment and to reject authoritative teachings.
There could never be disagreements over right and wrong. There would be no need for laws, courts, and battlefields. Can you explain why the history of the world has been a history of conflicts between moral values in God’s name?
There are conflicts of course, war, betrayal, genocide, ethnic cleansing and some are even done by man or groups of men in Gods name simply because man'a conscience is caloused and not aligned in the will of God.
The words used to describe the attributes of God is revealed by God Himself in the person of Jesus Christ the God-made-man, the Son of God, and the most high of all God's attributes as declared by Jesus is that he is our Father.
If God were immutable and therefore cannot change the past, the present, and the future as God saw it, doesn’t that make our prayers utterly worthless because when we pray, we are asking God to change his mind?
Actually when we pray we dont ask God to change anything, we ask His fatherly love to enlighten us, our mind and hearts to respond to His loving will.
If God so loved the world, why does he tolerate the devil to inspire the believers of the same religion hate each other like we all do as a matter of survival in this only Christian country in Asia?
God so loved the world, God so loved all men in this world that He sent His Son to buy us back from evil. Its only men or some men who does not want to be redeemed and still do evil and as a consequences make quarrel with other men of the same disposition.
Christ said that if someone smite thee on the right cheek, turn the left cheek also. What is so noble about turning the other cheek, if one knows that each time he does so, he piling up greater rewards in heaven, while the one who strikes is earning his rewards in hell?
Well better be the one who gives both side of the cheeks
If Christ died on the cross to destroy the devil, how come the devil is still alive and quite a success inspiring the Filipino to grace not the growth of human civilization but only to be a disgrace in the rat race for eternal salvation?
Jesus Christ did died on the cross, and that redeeming sacrifice is always renewed everytime the Holy Eucharist is celebrated. Satan will not die because He is creature of God turned bad that is designed to live forever like man and all angels. If Satan will die then that will be go against the nature of God who created the angels including the devils to live forever. Evil is still in this world because some men still live in sin and refuses God's mercy.
Theology is not what we know about divinity. It is what we do not know about humanity. As theology, however, is still at the very foundation of our system of education, is it any wonder that we come out of our schools not as fruitful thinkers in love with our country, but only as fruitless believers in love with divinity? Yours Fatithfully, Poch S
For those who are truly in love of God, everything will work out for the good and that includes the betterment of this country.
Thank you for your answers to my questions on God, but why do have to remain anonymous? What are you afraid of? That God might punish you for speaking like a religious moron in his behalf? Poch Suzara
Poch, why do you have to attack Anonymous as a religious moron? is ad hominem the only thought provoking thinking one can muster to counter his/her reply? If you like thoughts why not counter with your thoughts? Or are his replies indisputable? just some thought provoking questions! The Thought
