We Filipinos

We Filipinos have been educated, nay, indoctrinated to be incredulous, nay to be gullible enough to believe in something, to believe in anything. In the absence, however, of that something, of that anything, we are suppose to even believe in the existence of nothing.

Thus, we are the Sick Man of Asia. We do not think as a people. We do not think as a nation. We have only been frightened to believe in something. Indeed, we believe in anything, and in fact, our tradition has always been about believing and having faith in the existence of nothing. Poch Suzara

Almost all of the educated Philippine-born professionals I've
met here over many years in the Bay Area concede when we talk frankly between ourselves: that by now in the age of scientific humanist Googleplex(where I still have to find a believing Christian or Muslim), it's too late for countries such as the Philippines which are seemingly trapped in Third World mentality and ways, to close the widening gap with the ever-advancing First World. TO ROBERT BERNARDO ALL IS NOT LOST. THERE ARE THOSE IN THE PHILIPPINES, LIKE POCH SUZARA, WHO ARE THINKING DEEPLY FOR THEIR COUNTRY. THEY ARE EVEN FIGHTING FOR THEIR COUNTRY. THEY ARE RISKING LIVES, FORTUNE AND FAMILY FOR COUNTRY. SO LONG AS THEY EXIST, THERE IS STILL HOPE FOR OUR COUNTRY. MANNY ALMARIO
