Good without religion
I was good as a child. I had no faith in any religion. In fact, when I came out of my mom's womb - I was an atheist. Just like every one else is an atheist born into this world... It was only at the age of reason when I was told that God created me in his own image and likeness and that I was born with Original Sin. That any sin or crime I commit can be forgiven by God via confession to a priest. Except of course the sin of not believing in the Holy Spirit. That, for as long I have faith in God, my soul will be saved under eternal salvation; otherwise, if I continue to follow the ways of the devil as a sinner - I will be punished forever and ever under eternal damnation. Indeed, I am back to being good, especially good for something, and no longer good for nothing when I reverted back to my original atheism... Can you imagine how mentally confused, emotionally twisted, and psychologically distorted I was, as a growing boy, indoctrinated to be frightened of all those sick characters revealed in the holy bible as the truth? Hi there.
I have just learned that you've been kicked out of high school and I am a bit curious what happened to you after that?
How did your folks react to your being an atheist, and how did that affect your life?
I mean, having been home schooled and all, what kind of job did you take? Do you have a list of books that are must reads? I ask this because I wanted to start enlightening myself through books but don't know how to begin doing it.
I hope you can answer my questions if you don't mind.
Dear Jekongz,
Indeed, I was expelled out of high school at De la Salle University some 50 years ago. After which, I enrolled in the greatest of all universities - it is but a collection of non-fiction books. I read mostly philosophy by Bertrand Russell and indeed books on science and the scientific way of thinking such books written by the great scientists of the world - Darwin, Einstein, Sagan, Dawkins, Hawking, etc. I also studied the bible and, as you can read in my Blog, the bible is mostly filled with sacred junk and other religious garbage.
My last job in San Francisco was with the San Francisco Housing Authority as a Social worker for Senior citizens. Prior to that I was Director of Sales with Hilton hotels and with Holiday Inns in Los Angeles, Pasadena, and San Francisco. I got these jobs because for the most part I did interview my prospective employer instead of them interviewing me.
Read, Read, and Read my friend. There is more to learning outside than inside a stupid classroom, especially inside a Catholic classroom - keep out of it. Good luck and best wishes to you. Believe me you are on the right track in wanting to educate yourself. Poch
Thank you for responding to my questions.
My disillusionment with religion began when I reached the point of being "prayed out." And after hearing the same old excuses from my pastors (I'm a former Catholic turned Evangelical) about why sometimes God doesn't answer our prayers; and then went on quoting scripture reference and saying that Jesus wants to make me more and more like him through the trials and pains I have to endure in life, somehow, I wasn't satisfied with their explanations.
My pastor loves to preach about prosperity and how much God wants to bless us by first giving my money (Tithes) to his church to support the cause. And then went on claiming that if we repent of our sins and pray hard that God would send forth his Spirit to "Revive" us so that miracles can start happening, and he claims that we will witness grand miracles like seeing the dead raised from the dead, cripple walk, blind people see, deaf hear and stuff like that. But all the evidence I can see are people speaking gibberish and rolling down the floor. I didn't see any of the miracles they claimed.
Then I detached myself from my Born Again friends after having found out that most of the popular born again pastors like Benny Hinn live luxurious lives out of the millions of dollars worth of donations, and I started reading and researching on the internet and found out that the supposed "healings" in the crusades were not backed up by a medical certificate from the doctors. I thought, I've been conned. One thing lead to another and then I found myself not praying any more and broke free from my toxic religion.
In the beginning it was so hard because I've got to start from scratch. I've got to unlearn all the years of indoctrination and teach myself to think objectively and critically, thus, opening my mind to the large volume of information available in the Web.
I'm just glad that I've broken free from religion and it took me all "35" years of life and a huge amount of cash to do that.
Thank you for responding to my questions.

Dear Jekongs,
Courage. far from being a stupid sin, is really one of man's greatest of virtues.
I am very of you for your courageous stand against religion. Indeed, far more valuable that the freedom OF Religion is the freedom FROM religion.
Bertrand Russell: Religion encourages stupidity and an insufficient sense of reality.
With all best wishes,
