The Ways of Frightened Little Children

In the bible: “Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them, and said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the Kingdom of heaven. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” Matt. 18:1-4 Again Jesus said: “Verily I say unto you. Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of heaven as a little child, he shall not enter therein.” Mark 10:15 And that is exactly what we all are in this famous only Christian country in Asia: a bunch of frightened children incapable of standing up to solve human problems. We have yet to solve our social and political problems with consistent hard work, and not with childish prayers. Prayers are the ways of the superstitious primitives. Yes, we are all cowards in this morally bankrupt, spiritually impoverished, and politically insane country of ours. It is time to shape up and grow up not with stupid beliefs, but with intelligent values. Let us look deep at the power of science – now directing other Asian countries to extricate themselves out of poverty into enviable social, economic and political growth and development. How could the Filipino mind, filled with frightful phantoms and guided only by men interested in perpetuating their own infantile ignorance and childish fears, make progress either as a people or develop as a nation? In this country, like frightened children, we still believe in the silly pronouncements of other stupid children otherwise known as “politicians” and “theologians” not to mention frightened lawyers, teachers, professors, priests, bishops, archbishops, and cardinals.” As if they have anything truthful, useful, or fruitful to say or to deliver for the growth and maturity of our country. Where is the sense of pride and dignity of the Filipino as a people? Why do we continue to suffer much despite our endless devotion to God and his saints? How come in this one and only Christian country in Asia since the 16th century – we Filipinos continue to have a limit to human intelligence, but we seem to have no limit to the “arrogance” of human stupidity? Even our college-educated men and women at home and abroad never fail to prove that we are, indeed, the Sick Children of Asia. Now I am told that “atheism” can never become a way of daily life in the Philippines – not in a thousand years. Well, in that case, I say - let us put up the fight for atheism TODAY, not like a bunch of frightened cowards – postpone it for TOMORROW. Even our college professors are just as childish as everyone else. They are just as superstitious. They still teach that what is essential for the development of the Filipino mind is to appreciate those things that are incomprehensible and therefore need not be proved to be true. Indeed, when our brain is troubled, we believe everything and examine nothing. Like silly little children, we all want to be afraid. Our imagination via our indoctrination demands it. We have deep faith in sacred mysteries. Indeed, we reject what is known, we would rather play around with what is unknown or even with what is NOT worth knowing. It’s obvious we fear nothing more than having nothing to fear. We are no better off than the fugitives from justice: In our sick society, we are all fugitives from reason. Our favorite sport is to jump always into conclusion by running away from reality in order to have faith in our delusions and illusions. In the meantime, my dear reader, it is time to wake up. Our prayers addressed to God are as similar in form and substance to the letters ignorant children write to Santa Claus during Christmas Season. What could be more “arrogant” than that infantile pursuit? For my part, I would rather embrace atheism than continue to have faith in Catholicism in my country. It is time for us to be a grace to the human race. Poch Suzara Twitter# Facebook# Google#
