Public Library

When I read about the way in which library funds are being cut and cut, I can only think that American society has found one more way to destroy itself... Isaac Asimov . . . In the Philippines, there is no such thing as public library. Instead, what we have are thousands of schools, colleges, and universities owned and operated tax-free by the Catholic Church. . . In other words, we Filipinos have never found a way to recreate ourselves either as a thinking people or as a thinking nation. . . In the meantime, thanks to our Catholic system of education, we still believe and have faith that in the problems created by new knowledge, we can solve such problems not with more knowledge, but only with the same old fear of fucking with the Lord Jesus, or with the same old fucking prayers. . .
