Jesus Hanged on a Tree - which Tree?

"The God of our fathers raised up Jesus whom you murdered by hanging on a tree. Him God has exalted to His right hand to be Prince and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins. And we are His witnesses to these things, and so also is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey Him.” Acts 5:30-32 I asked it before, I ask it again: Jesus was HANGED to die on which tree - the TREE OF THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOOD AND EVIL - (Gen. 2:9); or, on the TREE OF LIFE? - (Gen:3:22). In the meantime, in the Philippine Star today it says: "the cross of Jesus is the supreme evidence of the love of God." What love of God? what cross of Jesus? Jesus was hanged on a tree? Poch Suzara

The answer is neither. He hung on a cross, which is also refered to as a tree by the writers and people of that time. This is clear as Paul says Jesus was crucified on a cross and hung on a tree, refering to the same event.

For the second, it is much more difficult to explain. Simply put God is just and requires everyone else to be as well. Therefore, sin must be punished. God is also understanding and loving and knows that means no person can ever achieve this. So what can God do? He takes our punishment upon himself in the form of the cross. This same image is seen in the story of a just judge. A woman was brought to his court and found guilty of speeding. Her charge - $50. What happened next though is the judge stood up and took off his robes. He came down from his ench and pulled out his wallet. He gave the bailiff (or whoever, I cannot remember) $50. Why? Because the woman was his daughter. He could have bent the law and let her free but then his character would have been in question. Rather, he upkept the law and was just and paid the price himself, since his daughter did not have money to pay. The same is true for the cross and shows Gods love since our sentence was so much greater.

Actually, I have gone through some more of your logs and I have to agree with some of it but my faith is not shaken. The church is not perfect. Trust me, I know we have made monumental mistakes but I cannot claim that they are any worse than others made by secular institutes and corporations. Maybe you feel they have been but this is a relative assessment and one that only leads to arguing and not understanding. However, if I may be so old - for one who says where is the love for humanity, you apparently have little or no love for christians based upon this blog. Please remember we are humans as well.

I will visit your blog again and hope maybe my thoughts will provoke your thoughts. Please refer to me as E.S. Gott.
