The Filipino is worth thinking for
"Self-deception is the worst tragedy of the Filipino as a people." Historian Teodoro A. Agoncillo. . . Oh my dear Historian-Professor-Friend Agoncillo, thanks to our self-deception as a people, we are experiencing in this 21st century, a far more painful tragedy as a nation - our needless growth in population. We are now growing by 3 babies born every minute; or, 4320 babies daily; or, 129,600 babies monthly; or, 1,555,200 babies born yearly. According to the latest statistic - our population is now 100,000,000 million. At the rate of growth at 15 million Filipinos every 10 years by the year 2050 our population would have reached around 200 million Filipinos. . . I said it before, I say it again. In order to solve our troubles and problems as a nation in the here and now - it is not enough to believe that the Filipino is worth dying for. In fact, we better start believing that the Filipino is worth thinking for; especially if we hope to have a better future for the generations to come practising seriously birth control and family planning.
