Our Overseas workers

Our workers are better paid and indeed highly respected for the hard work they do in foreign countries.

In our own God-forsaken country, however, instead of giving our workers their due earnings and due respect, they only survive on more of the same hand to mouth existence. But we never stop asking God to bless them and we never stop thanking God for the hard work that they do for the rich. In the meantime, in our sick society, the filthy poor are getting poorer. The filthy rich are not only getting richer, they are also getting holier. Poch Suzara

Dear Poch:
I always enjoy and appreciate reading your "Thoughts to Provoke Your Thoughts." But when I read your comments on how Filipino workers in foreign countries are well-paid, I immediately thought about the many cases where this is not true. Indeed, there was recently a story about Filipina maids being enslaved in New York. I have personally met Filipinas that have been virtual slaves to the people they have worked for. This is also true in many Southeast Asian and Arab countries. Many of these Filipinas had middle-class lifestyles in the Philippines. Perhaps you should write something about them on your blogspot. Not doubt they are praying to God, even though, ultimately, some caring human being comes to their rescue.

Dear Norm,

Thanks for your response to my Blog. You are right - not all Filipino workers are well paid working abroad. I was, however, referring to the 15 BILLION DOLLARS average remitted annually to the Philippines by more than 15,000,000 Filipinos now working in 168 foreign countries. Monies, indeed, that's keeping the Philippine government happy and of course keeping our God-fearing and God-loving nevertheless corrupt government officials busy stealing. Of course, these corrupt officials never cease praying to thank God who apparently leads them daily into temptation.

Norm, do you know that 98 per cent of our government officials believe, love, worship, and adore God? After all, who else but a God will forgive them of their sins against our people and forgive them of their crimes against our country?

Well, as for me, I am proud that I am not in government. I am, however, proud that I am atheist. We atheists try to live the good life - one inspired by love and guided by knowledge.

Take care Norm and thanks much for writing.
With all good wishes, Poch
