Index of prohibited Books

In Germany, Adolf Hitler's Mein Kampf was never listed on the Vatican's "Index of Prohibited Books." Hitler, after all, was raised and educated as a Catholic. In the Philippines, however, Jose Rizal's NOLI and FILI were among those listed in the Vatican's "Index of Prohibited Books." Filipino Catholics were not allowed to read Jose Rizal's writings. Jesus Christ, a Jew born in a foreign land, is a greater hero than our own Jose Rizal - a freethinker and a humanist, freedom-fighter - one of the greatest of thinkers this world has ever produced - born in the Philippines. Dear Poch,

I think you're right about that.

In our third year of Philosophy in De La Salle College (1960) we were given
a list of forbidden philosophy books issued by the then Rufino Cardinal Santos and our professors (both ex-Jesuits) reactions were "Fuck the Cardinal...
read whatever you like!" I don't even remember if we had any studies on
Rizal at all. My best friend J. Bosch y Roensch had to go to UP to take the Rizal
course where he failed the subject miserably. I believe he got into a bad company
of Upsilonians.
