Catholics are taught to follow faithfully the teachings of the Church. One such teaching has been and still is: - Do Not read the Bible without proper spiritual guidance. Thus, Catholics are shamelessly ignorant of bible contents and its mythological sources. Poch Suzara

We have seen the consequences of people interpreting the Bible according to their own biased personal lights. See the scandal of the existence of literally hundreds of allegedly Christian sects and they continue to multiply even at this moment.
Some Catholics are indeed ignorant of the mythic content and meaning of many stories in the Bible but not all. In point of fact, Catholics themselves were the first to note the mythic nature of those stories. St. Augustine sternly scolded some early Christians for disputing with learned Egyptians and Greeks about the nature of heavenly bodies and their movements saying in effect that those people knew their onions and arguing with them by using Genesis as their proof source only exposed those Christians' ignorance and unduly places our faith in a bad light. As far as I know, he was the first to deny that God literally created the universe in six days.
