We are Born Innocent, not educated

We are a nation with more than a thousand schools, colleges, and universities - mostly own and operated by the Catholic church. Hardly therefore a dozen educated Filipinos. Consider the average Filipino with a college education in our country. He has a better chance to arrive at a high government office if he achieves first a reputation in mediocrity. His main function in government moreover, is to serve the rulers and deceived the ruled. It is, in this way, as citizens of our own Repulic, indeed, as products of our schools, colleges, and universities - we have little sense of civility. We hardly have love for our country instilled into us; instead, during our formative years in school, what is entrusted into our minds and hearts is more love and respect, indeed, more faith in divinity otherwise more known as CHRISTIANITY. Thus, in our own country, it is more nationalistic to declare that we are, first and foremost - Catholics, or Aglipays, or member of the El Shadai, or member of the Jesus is our Lord movement, or member of the Mormon church, etc; hardly, however, are we ever proudly to identify ourselves as Filipinos - citizens of the Republic of the Philippines. Stupid Victims of Religion

Letter to the Editors:

Published today, Feb. 6, 2012, in the Philippine Star, Ripley's BELIEVE IT OR NOT series: "Thousands of people live among the dead as squatters in the North Cemetery of the Philippines Capital - Manila."

In the meantime, in this already 21st century, it is still taught in our schools, colleges, and universities that to have sex for the sake of pleasure is a sin against God; but to have sex for the sake of making babies is a virtue. Indeed, population growth is good business for the priesthood industry as blessed daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly by God keeping us Filipinos historically ahead but only as the Sick Man of Asia.

Only in the Philippines: poor Filipinos living among the dead in the cemetery is proof enough that a kind and loving God up there does not only provide for the dead, but also provides for the living in the Philippines down here.

I said it before, I say it again: we are NOT the intelligent masters; on the contrary, we are the stupid victims of religion keeping us Filipinos directionless as a people and rudderless as a nation! Poch Suzara

A God who allows His own Chosen People on earth to get his only begotten Son crucified on a cross has got to be a SICK God. Such a God should be charged in court for child abuse

Impeachment Trial to defend our culture of Corruption

Only in the Philippines: a top lawyer, an expert on the laws of our land, a person
legally competent, with integrity and probity, and judicially independent gets appointed by the president of our Republic to be country's top magistrate - the chief justice of the Supreme Court.

Along the way, however, he is accused of violating public trust, acquiring ill-gotten wealth, failure to disclose to the public his statement of assets and liabilities, etc - in all
8 charges filed against him. Instead of defending himself in the Impeachment trial, he hires a battery of the most expensive lawyers of the land to defend his case. It is Time to dump Jesus out of the Philippines

Here's one classic reason why we Filipinos are famous as the Sick Man of Asia, specially as we love, worship, and adore our Jewish Savior, the Son of a Jewish God Jesus - who, instead of revealing to us our purpose in creation and responsibility for our country and its future, declares a lot of holy bible baloney to keep us crippled as a people and troubled as a nation.

Jesus tells us to "take no thought" for anything, "for your Father in heaven knoweth your need before ye ask Him" - a perfect example of that "false security"under which we have lived. This Jesus declaration has no literal meaning nor significance whatsoever, especially for living the good life - one inspired by love and guided by human intelligence.

Yea, let's take no thought for our own welfare and this heavenly Father will let us starve. Take no thought for health and sanitation and we die of this "heavenly Father's" murderous germs, virus, and bacteria. Take no thought for economic justice and we shall remain jobless, pennyless, and worthless. Take no thought for political justice and we have a nation that remains mired in sins and in crimes.

Thought, indeed, the power of thought, is precisely our duty and responsibility as citizens of our own country. Devoid of thought, we have nothing going for us except to wait, like sick men and sick women - for "divine providence."

On the contrary, what we need is human providence: knowledge and intelligence to make right these God-ordained wrongs. We need a real practical beliefs and intelligent social values that will help us help ourselves with pride, self-respect, and dignity. Under these beauties we have a sense of direction as a people and sense of protection of our beloved nation.

THE SACRED BELIEFS OF THE SICK MAN OF ASIA PROUD OF HIS FREE WILL They believe that human intelligence is always a sin. Human stupidity always a virtue. Though at most times they cannot tell the difference. They do not read the bible; but when they do and cannot make heads or tails of bible verses, they call it - “divine wisdom.” They believe that believing is far more crucial than knowing. In fact, they believe that to be among the silly believers collectively is far more pleasing to a divinity than to be among the intelligent thinkers individually. They believe that to be a “born again” is more pleasing to God especially if one remains a child in a state of chronic dependence and does not have to grow up to become a mature thinking adult. They believe in religion not primarily as a search for philosophical veracity, but as an overwhelming search for an ally in the sky for the sake of emotionally security. They believe that it does not matter what mysterious things one believes for as long as it remains perpetually mysterious. They believe that we have no population problem of 100 million poor Filipinos growing to 200 million poorer Filipinos by the year 2040 because God is good and will always provide for the Philippines. They believe that God inspired the silly authors to write the bible. But that same God could not inspire the stupid theologians to announce to the world at large if the souls of our dead parents, grandparents and other dead loved-ones made it to heaven or are now punished in hell. They believe in the man of faith despite the fact that the man of faith is like a silly drunkard who clings to a lamppost for support, not illumination They believe in the existence of immortality that consists of a hereafter even if there were no herebefore. Which makes the concept of immortality nothing but a biblical farce, a fraud, and a ceremony. They believe that Jesus died on the cross to destroy the devil. The devil, however, is still alive today employed as chief military adviser of the US government installing the freedom of deviltry in oil-rich countries. They believe that the bible was written by inspired authors of God. Such authors, however, were a bunch of superstitious primitives who did not even know that the earth is round or that it rotates on its own axis while it orbits round the sun. They believe that eating no meat on Good Fridays is a great virtue. But to live like pigs and to think like cows during the rest of the year is the greatest of social values, specially through Christ, our Lord, amen. They believe that if a belief were believed by some 100 million people, it must be a true belief. Never mind even if said belief does not accord with the facts. They believe that after death they will meet with God face to face. As if God has a face and as if the believers themselves will have a face to face anyone after death. They believe practice makes perfect. They therefore practices stupidity daily on this earth so that by the time they get to heaven they will be stupid perfectly. Indeed, “on earth as it is in heaven.” They believe in how to win friends and influence people especially if they were the same religious morons – the stupid teachers - who are the greatest influence on children during the formative years in school. They believe that the atheists are a bunch of worthless and immoral morons. They ignore the historical fact that the atheists have never declared war on other atheists for not believing in the existence of God. They believe that Jose Rizal’s life was not tragic. On the contrary, that it was quite patriotic. Especially since inspired ecclesiastic managed to have him executed as a lunatic since, they claim, despicably, he died in the end as a penitent catholic. Sinners and Criminals in the Philippines

Foreign countries like China, Singapore, Japan, Malaysia, Australia, Brunei, Vietnam, Taiwan, etc - the laws of such countries are respected and strictly enforced. It is no fun if one were a sinner or a criminal touring such countries. In the Philippines, however, the only Catholic country in Asia, where the laws of our land are not that respected nor seriously enforced, it is more fun if one were a sinner or a criminal as a tourist. Oh yes, indeed, the joys of Corruption as a way of daily life is more fun in the Philippines. Look at the main tourist attraction in the Philippines: the impeachment trial of the chief justice of the Supreme Court - a small fish compared to the bigger fishes hardly charged, arrested, tried in court, and incarcerated. The powers-that-be, however, are more occupied in protecting and defending the culture of corruption as blessed by God daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly in the Philippines. Ours, indeed, is the most corrupt nation in all of Asia. We Filipinos have even been educated to believe that a stupid man is more likely to be truthful than a man who is intelligent. And so, our government officials today acting as judges in the impeachment case against the top magistrate of our Republic - take advantage of our culture of corruption by pretending to be not as corrupt as the corrupt system of education has made them. The Bible Written by Inspired Liars of God

One would think that there was only one cross, not four, and therefore only one inscription written on the cross. However, in the book of Acts 5:30, Jesus was

things which he did both in the land of the Jews, or in Jerusalem;
whom they slew and hanged on a tree.”

Again, in Acts 13:29, it reads: “ And when they had fulfilled all
that was written of him, they took him down from the tree. And laid
him in a sepulcher.”

And again, in 1 Peter 2:24, “Who on his own self bare our sins in his
own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto

Possible consequences are environmental deterioration, impaired quality of life, and indeed, the support and maintenance of a sick society. The Philippines population growth is mostly due from one source: children begetting children who have been taught to believe that God will provide for them! Here, however, are Flat Out Lies By The Bible's God Character, And His Numerous Failed Predictions. We'll start with:

Lies from the bible's god in Genesis:

1. "But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die."

God says that if Adam eats from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, then the day that he does so, he will die. But later Adam eats the forbidden fruit (3:6) and yet lives for another 930 years (5:5). 2:17

2. As a punishment for killing Abel, God says Cain will be "a fugitive and a vagabond." Yet in just a few verses (4:16-17) Cain will settle down, marry, have a son, and build a city. This is not the activity one would expect from a fugitive and a vagabond. 4:12

3. God promises Abram and his descendants all of the land of Canaan. But both history and the bible (Acts 7:5 and Heb.11:13) show that God's promise to Abram was a lie. 13:15, 15:18, 17:8, 28:13-14

3. How long was the Egyptian captivity? This verse says 400 years, but Ex.12:40 and Gal.3:17 say 430 years. 15:13

4. "In the fourth generation they [Abraham's descendants] shall come hither again." But, if we count Abraham, then their return occurred after seven generations: Abraham, Isaac (Gen.21:1-3), Jacob (Gen.25:19-26), Levi (Gen.35:22-23), Kohath (Ex.6:16), Amramn (Ex.6:18), and Moses (Ex.6:20). 15:16

5. God promises Abram's descendants the land of Canaan from the Nile to the Euphrates. But according to Acts 7:5 and Heb.11:13 God's promise to Abram was not fulfilled. 15:18

6. God promises to make Isaac's descendents as numerous as "the stars of heaven", which, of course, never happened. The Jews have always been, and will always be, a small minority. 26:4

7. God renames Jacob twice (32:28, 35:10 ). God says that Jacob will henceforth be called Israel, but the Bible continues to call him Jacob anyway (47:28-29). And even God himself calls him Jacob in 46:2. 32:28, 35:10

8. God calls Jacob Jacob, though he said in Gen.32:28 and 35:10 that he would no longer be called Jacob but Israel. 46:2

9. God promises to bring Jacob safely back from Egypt, but Jacob dies in Egypt (Gen.47:28-29) 46:3

10. The tribe of Judah will reign "until Shiloh," but Israel's first king (Saul) was from the tribe of Benjamin (Acts 13:21), and most of the time after this prophecy there was no king at all. 49:10

11. Contrary to the prophecy in 48:21, Joseph died in Egypt, not Israel. Gen.50:24

Indeed, Thailand is a more progressive country compared to our Philippines. However, have you ever heard of the Thai people who have more faith in Jesus than they do love and respect their King? Or, in line with the teachings of Jesus - they do not take thought for tomorrow? Or worst - they believe, like millions of poor Filipinos believe, - to love NOT this world or the things that are in the world and leave everything to God because God will provide - if not in this world, in the next? All that they have to do is to pray daily to God to give us this day our daily, and to lead us not into temptation?

EVIL AGAINST EVIL

Or take the USSR – a so-called atheistic nation that eventually crumbled but only because after dumping Christianity, the USSR replaced Christianity with another religion called “communism.” Indeed, Communism, a religion, just like Christianity, advocate a religious way of life on the basis of irrational dogmas; they have a sacred history, a Messiah, and a priesthood. The history of the struggle of Christianity against communism was not a struggle of GOOD against EVIL; but a struggle of EVIL against EVIL. In any case, EVIL always wins! In the meantime, our world view has been deranged by myths imposed upon us by Christianity. President Noynoy Aquino has to work overtime in 2012 if he is to meet the expectations of the people and fulfill his election promises. The following problems are crying for solutions:

1. Lack of jobs; 3 million unemployed; 8 million underemployed. He promised to create 10 million jobs in 6 years or 1.6 million a year;
2. High prices of food and other basic necessities including rice, sugar, cooking oil, gasoline, LPG, pork, chicken, fish and vegetables;
3. Petty corruption in the bureaucracy including kotong cops;
4. Criminality all over the country with an epidemic of riding in tandem murders;
5. Environmental enforcement including assurance of clean air, clean water and adequately coping with the challenges of climate change;
6. Bad roads aggravated by the slow pace of construction of roads and bridges all over the country, with money being siphoned off by corrupt officials and contractors;
7. Lack of 66,000 classrooms, 112,000 teachers, lack of computers and IT equipment in elementary schools;
8. Deterioration of education resulting in low scores in national achievement tests, high dropout rate and only 20 out of 100 grade school students entering high school;
9. Lack of basic health services in rural areas with poorly understaffed government hospitals with old equipment and lack of medicines;
10. Lack of progress in the peace process with the MILF and the CPP/NPA/NDF. NPA attacks have stepped up nationwide.
11. The very serious problem of illegal drug use and drug dealing corrupting a wide swat of local officials and police officers.

Other pressing problems include:

1. Inadequate and poor airport services earning for NAIA I the title of the worst airport in the world. NAIA 3 is not yet fully operational;
2. Lack of potable water in many rural areas. Wells are drying up. Prices of bottled water have gone up;
3. Lack of transportation facilities in the rural areas with the high cost of gasoline and poor farm to market roads. Sea transportation besides being expensive is unsafe;
4. Unbridled population growth rate with the population now reaching 100 million;
5. Lack of post harvest facilities and insufficient irrigation systems;
6. Lack of electricity in 30% of the barangays;
7. Lack of potable water in many areas;
8. Lack of equipment in the AFP and also in the PNP;
9. Slow pace of legislature and judicial reform with backlogs throughout the court system;
10. A very bad jail system with frequent escapes happening and corruption pervading the jail management authorities;
11. Deterioration and shameful performances in Philippine sports, placing 6th in the last Southeast Asian Games.

Comment: surely Ernesto M. Maceda has the guts to enumerate the problems that's keeping us Filipinos aimless as a people and directionless as a nation. But he would not elaborate on the real monster, the real source of the problems that's keeping us POOR as a people and BACKWARD as a nation. The FACT that we produce 3 babies every single minute of the day and night or 1.5 MiLLION BABIES yearly. We are now 100 MILLION FILIPINOS IN THE PHILIPPINES. My dear reader -Have you ever heard of atheists hating and killing other atheists for not believing in God? What about the religious morons? God is not a Catholic

I am a publicly-declared, openly-avowed atheist. Thus, in our faith-soaked society, I am told that I need to see a psychiatrist to assist me solve my mental illness, if not to remedy my neurotic rebellion against authority. In brief, I am considered a danger to society as I am an individual with emotional troubles without a God to guide me to be on the right path. What is more ticklish about this situation, however, is that to label atheism as a psychological problem is a childish, indeed, a laughable attempt to evade the real issue whether there is a God or not? In the meantime, I already visited a Catholic psychiatrist. He could not prove to me the existence of God, nay, he could not prove to me that God is a Catholic! It is like a supernatural monster existing here, there, and everywhere. It is always hungry and needs feeding. The diet is unique: sacred lies marinated in holy deception then cooked with the power of education The worst kind of corruption, however, is the corruption of the mind and heart. The evil comes from our corrupt system of education. Look at the corrupt men and corrupt women in and out of government. They are the corrupt products of La Salle, Ateneo, Assumption, Letran, San Beda, Miriam college, University of Santo Thomas, University of the Philippines, Asian Institute of Management and all the rest of them that are commercial enterprises, hardly educational. Indeed, we are all born innocent, not corrupt. We are made corrupt during our formative years in school to believe in a lot of illusions and delusions that keep our society perpetually sick under national confusion. Indeed, we are not the rich masters of education. We are the poor victims of it. It is time that we Filipinos look seriously at our corrupt values and beliefs. Corruption has given us an image not of life, but of death. Ours, indeed, is a culture of corruption. A half-naked dead Son of God hangs on a cross in most of our homes, schools, hospitals, banks, sports arena, courts of Law, executive, legislative, judicial branches of government office, and indeed, especially around our own necks. It is not a symbol of self-respect as a people. It is not symbol of dignity as a nation. It is, indeed, a symbol of our failure as a people under the success of superstition in our poor and backward country. One of the greatest man this world has ever produced was a Filipino - our one and only Jose Rizal. He wrote two great books that shook the foundation of Christian power and authority over our minds and hearts as a conquered people. He proved with documentary evidence that we are not the brightened masters, but the frightened victims of Christianity. He was publicly executed in December 30, 1896 as authorized by his enemy. The enemy that never left the Philippines. She is still here with power, wealth, and glory popularly known as our "faith in God." Jesus, the Founder of Christianity, warned his disciples and followers: "If any man come to me and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethern, and yea, his own life also, he cannot be my disciple." Luke 14:26 Our Jose Rizal, always on the side of humanity, wrote: "The whole thought of my whole life has always been love of my country and her moral and material development." To Filipinos, he wrote in a manifesto: "My dream was my country's prosperity. . . I would like the Filipino to become worthy, noble, honorable, for a people who makes itself despicable for its cowardice or vices exposes itself to abuses and vexations." In the meantime, we Filipinos have yet to recognize why and how other foreign countries have also been substantiating Rizal's stand on the beauty of science and the power of technology. So much so that these foreign countries have been growing and developing. They are able to hire Filipinos to be their workers and laborers. Now estimated at 15 million Filipinos today residing and working in some 198 countries around the world. Such foreign countries have the free will to establish for themselves a higher standard of living and thinking. The life we conceive as a people is the life we achieve as a nation. With the birth of Jose Rizal in my mind and his death anniversary in my heart, I celebrate dearly what I envisage yearly - the Filipino capacity for love, beauty, knowledge, and the joys in life. Indeed, I celebrate the Filipino potential in creating social sanity, political integrity, religious rationality, economic prosperity, and historical sensibility. The struggle against corruption is everyone's business. Everyone is affected by it, therefore everyone should be responsible enough to take a genuine interest in efforts to admit it, confront it, and to eradicate it. Human Misery, Human Tragedy

With or without natural disasters such as flood-hit areas in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao - millions of Filipinos in this only Christian country in Asia struggle to survive with no clean water, no toilet facilities, no shelter, no 3 square meals a day, no medicine, no schools, no hospitals, no hope for a better future. But they are told again and again that GOD WILL PROVIDE FOR THEM if not in this life, in the next better world to come after death known as heaven in the KINGDOM OF GOD. Even the head of the Vatican Bank - the richest, wealthiest, the most powerful bank in the world today - The holy Father - Catholic Pope - offers nothing but silly PRAYERS and CONDOLENCES to alleviate such human misery, such human tragedy in this only Catholic country in Asia today. In the meantime, daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly - we Filipinos have always prayed faithfully to God to help us remedy poverty out of our sick society. This has been going on since the 16th century. Today, in this already 21st century - nothing has as yet happened; in fact, things are just getting out of control, especially our population growing - now at 100 million Filipinos in this only Catholic country in Asia. However, as the results of our daily prayer have been not about something, but only about nothing, what we are told to do is to pray more, pray harder, and pray longer. No One is completely Useless

Mar Patalinjug, A teacher in grade 6 La Salle once told me in class that I was a totally useless student. I replied: "No one is completely useless, because the most horrible of us at least serves as a horrible example to others not to emulate." After I was expelled, I embarked on a self-education course. I gradually came to realize that it was my teachers in school who were the ones totally useless for me never to emulate. Indeed, there is greater value in learning HOW to think than learning WHAT to believe. Scientific Way of Thinking

Between one philosopher compared to a thousand theologians, I would first listen to Bertrand Russell: He made it clear that - "freedom is the supreme good; for without freedom personality is impossible. Life and knowledge are today so complex, that only by free discussions can we pick our way through errors and prejudices to that total perspective which is truth. Let men, let even teachers, differ and debate; out of such diverse opinions will come an intelligent relativity of belief which will not readily fly to arms; hatred and war come largely of fixed ideas or dogmatic faith. We think of education as the transmission of a certain body of settled knowledge, when it should be rather the development of a scientific habit of mind." Now, if you want to learn to be scientific in your way of thinking: you must first learn to value observation, and your conclusion from that observation must be tentative as the conclusion itself must still be under further investigation by way of experimentation. Science is always about lively analysis. The scientific way of thinking has nothing to do with deadly paralysis. In the meantime, science is always tentative. It is never definite or dogmatic. Science is always ready and willing to admit its own errors as science has been and always will be a self-correcting enterprise. As I am an individual in love with the scientific way of thinking, I may seem bleak and cold, arrogant or impertinent - to those of you who would rather remain frightened of Christian values and beliefs. But as I learned to muster enough intellectual courage to question everything, I have also learned to thrust fear out of my thoughts, and this lesson, once learned, brings a kind of peaceful sanity which is impossible to those of you still bamboozled by grade school fairy tales - threatened into us during our so-called "formative years." In the ultimate analysis, I said it before, and I say it again: due to, if not because of, Christian values and beliefs as the basis of Filipino custom and tradition, we never celebrate the rise of scientific intelligence to benefit our country's growth and development; on the contrary, we only celebrate the traditional and customary ways of Catholic mediocrity to maintain, support, and defend the horrors that make famous as a sick society. Understand our World

When the real world is not sufficiently flattering we all tend to take refuge in a world of make believe, where all our desires are gratified without great effort. This is the essence of fear, especially the fear of thought. It is also the source of the great religions and myths that have done more harm than good in this world.

For my part, I would rather understand the world and, if I can, change it. After all, understanding the world and the desire to change it are the two great engines of progress, without which, human society, especially our society, will remain as sick as ever; especially for God's glory in heaven. Owners of schools, College and university owners ought to be the promoters of civilization. Teachers and professors ought ought to be the guardians of a sane and a healthy society.

We think of education as the transmission of a certain body of settled knowledge. On the contrary, education ought to be about the development of a scientific habit of mind. Indeed, learning as a process of lively analysis, and not a matter of deadly paralysis.

It is sad and painful to see college educated men and women of this country carry a heavy load of useless guilt on their backs. They even believe
it as being blessed by God with peace and joy in life. As a matter of historical fact, they are intellectually crippled by its destructive weight. It is, in this way, that they readily serve a silly divinity up there rather than play vital roles in the development of sanity of our country via its growth and maturity down here.

Dear Bob Gabuna, It is incredible how you miserably fail to see the difference. Neither the wind nor heat nor electrical current would bother to threaten any of us with hell-fire eternal damnation if we do not believe freely in their existence. Now your God, so emotionally insecure, so unstable in character, so much of an egomaniac would easily get hurt or feel needlessly offended if we do believe in his existence. Not the Healthy Masters, but The Sick Victims of Christianity

Far more damaging than sexual abuse is the intellectual abuse of children in Catholic schools. Indeed, what could be more damaging than teaching children to believe and to have faith in a lot of sacred lies and holy deceptions otherwise more known as "free will." Such as to believe that a Son of God Jesus was crucified on the cross 2,000 years ago to destroy the devil? But the devil is still alive and kicking. Still pretty much active in cahoots with God's divine plan, especially for us Filipinos with our "free will" in the Philippines, - the only Catholic country in Asia not of our free choice since the 16th century. In the meantime, in this already 21st century, millions of Filipinos existing without running water, without toilet facilities, living in cart, Nipa huts, or under bridges, indeed, living in the dirty slums of our major cities continue praying to God to "give us this day our daily bread," and to "lead us not into temptation! And after falling into temptation they also pray daily to "holy Mary, Mother of God, to pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death, amen!" No doubt, the truth hurts; but lies are far more damaging and can last for a thousand years. I ask: when will we Filipinos, especially as a people, begin to wake up to the ugly truth that we are not the healthy masters of spirituality. Indeed, from the wealthiest and healthiest people in all of Asia before Christianity arrived to colonized the Philippines, we are now the SICK MAN of ASIA in this already 21st century. Thanks to the Son of God Jesus, who is not only informational, but also transformational. It is only after death that we Filipinos look forward to meeting Jesus in heaven. As Jesus, however, promised to return some two thousand years ago, I am about the one and only exceptional Filipino who is looking forward to meeting Jesus in person right here and now. Indeed, I hope and pray that Jesus will soon return. In this way, he can begin to straighten out the mess caused by Christian values and beliefs keeping the Filipinos spiritually poor as a people and the Philippines morally backward as a nation. In the meantime, as Jesus, however, has not only been informational, but also transformational, - what has the results been for us Filipinos in this only Christian country in all of Asia? Hate, fear, ignorance, filth, squalor, poverty, not to mention political mediocrity in cahoots with biblical insanity pretty much characterize our way of life. I Celebrate Atheism, not Catholicism

Millions of Filipinos celebrate December 25 as the birth of a Jewish Lord, the
Son of God, known as Jesus Christ - born in a foreign land, some 2,000 years ago -
the so-called "Savior of the Filipinos.".

For my part, as an atheist, 365 days of the year - I celebrate daily the pleasures
in life - intellectual growth and philosophical development; the love of learning, happy, expansive, generous, glad when others are happy, not glad when others are not happy.

Indoctrinated, YES. Educated, NO!

For the sake of argument, let us define "education" not as the painful accumulation of dead facts and useless dates, but as an ennobling intimacy with lives of great men and women of history. Not as the preparation of the individual to "make a living," but as the development of every potential capacity in him for the comprehension, control, and appreciation of this world. Our World. Above all, let us consider education as the technique of transmitting as completely as possible, to as many as possible, that scientific, technological, intellectual, moral, and artistic heritage through which the race forms the growing individual that makes him a decent human being at home with the freedom of thought and sane action.

Under this definition, I must admit, openly or publicly, that if I had finished 6 years of La Salle grade school, 4 years of La Salle high school, and 4 years of college at De la Salle University, I still would consider myself today, not as an "educated Filipino" but only as a faith-soaked "indoctrinated Catholic" - useful to fear God up there by being utterly useless to love of my country down here.

Now, imagine our city councilors, city mayors, governors, congressmen, senators, and President as government officials - the products of Catholic schools, colleges, and universities. With all of them there is more fear of God up there and than there is love of country down here.

Indeed, love of country means the same thing as love of health and sanitation. Love of education. Love of ideas. Love of work. Love of commitment. Love of punctuality. Love of schedule. Love of law and order. And the most vital of all loves - no, not love of a divinity, but simply the love of fellow-citizens for the sake of our love of country. Poch Suzara
