God, the Devil, and the Filipinos
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up. James 4:7-`10
Oh God, my dear God, for more than 2,000 years in the world, and for than 400 years in the Philippines, haven't we Filipinos been resisting the devil? Have we not been humble and always faithful to you living as Christians in this only christian country in Asia? So how come the devil is still around existing seeing to it that we Filipinos continue to be famous, more than ever, as the SICK MAN OF ASIA? Look how, as a sick people, we continue to pray daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly the Lord's prayer - "Give us this day our daily bread and lead us not into temptation..." Oh God, my dear God, never mind the bread. We are already used to not eating them. But when will you stop leading us Filipinos into temptation?
I asked God before, but apparently God does not care to listen. I ask you again: What are you a God for? Specially for us poor Filipinos in the Philippines? The only country in Asia where far more churches and cathedrals have been established than hospitals and public libraries? . . . Poch Suzara
